Walking Trails
Outdoor exhibits on the trails around the house tell you about the historic landscape. Discover Nova Scotia's rich natural heritage in every season. Walks range from easy to challenging, and trails offer plenty of recreational opportunities for people of all ages, and in all seasons.
- Trails are available year-round
- Parking is located by Uniacke House during the museum operating season
Post Road Tea Room
The Post Road Tea Room is named for Nova Scotia’s first highway, the road between Halifax and Windsor. Sections of the original Post Road are part of the Museum Park’s trail system today. Drop by anytime during open hours all season, from June 1 to September 30, and enjoy light refreshments at the Post Road Tea Room.
The tea room operates in the old basement kitchen of Uniacke House. It is staffed by our knowledgeable heritage interpreters. While you enjoy refreshments, continue your conversation and find out even more about the Estate, the Uniackes, and life in Nova Scotia’s upper classes in the early 1800s.
Purchase a souvenir of your visit in the Museum Shop that features a fine selection of books and products related to the Museum and the Uniacke area.
Accessibility
Most historic buildings were not originally designed to accommodate people with disabilities. Providing access (interior and exterior) for persons with disabilities in ways that preserve the character of the historic property is a challenge that requires creativity and collaboration. As we seek to make improvements to the built environment, we are focusing our attention on providing digital and print images for physically inaccessible spaces and increasing outdoor interpretive programming. Please contact us for more details.
Our site currently consists of:
- Designated accessible parking spaces.
- A drop off area is available near the ramp.
- A ramp is available at the back of the main house which provides access to the main level of the house for those using mobility devices.
- The basement (tea-room), upper floor and attic are only accessible via staircase but pictures of these rooms are available and staff are on hand to share stories and answer questions.
- Gender-neutral washrooms are available in the basement (via stairs) and wheelchair accessible outhouses are available on the grounds.
- Seating is available both inside and on the property.
- The barn and carriage house are open only for viewing from doorways.
- The trails offer limited wheelchair accessibility.
- Uniacke Estate Museum Park is proud to be an Aira Access Partner.
We will update this page as we make improvements.
